Welcome to the Wales Coast Path

THE WALES COAST PATH follows the whole Welsh coast for 870 miles from top to bottom. Wales is the only country in the world with a continuous path around its entire coast. Making it one of the best walks and hikes in Wales.

The Wales Coast Path (or Llwybr Arfordir Cymru, in Welsh) promises unbroken coastal walking, from the outskirts of the ancient walled city of Chester in the north to the pretty Georgian market town of Chepstow in the south.

All around Wales

Beginning on the broad Dee estuary, the Path traces the North Wales coast with its traditional seaside resorts. Explore the limestone headlands of Little Orme and Great Orme, then walk on past Conwy Castle, over Conwy Mountain and along the Menai Strait.

Circle the Isle of Anglesey, before passing Caernarfon Castle to head around the remote Llŷn Peninsula with Bardsey Island at its tip. From Porthmadog, the Wales Coast Path pushes south past Harlech castle — kissing the western rim of the Snowdonia National Park — and on down the long sweep of Cardigan Bay with its beautiful, open estuaries. (The Ceredigion Coast Path is now part of the Wales Coast Path.)

The Wales Coast Path then rounds Pembrokeshire — Britain’s only coastal National Park — on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path with its sparkling bays and lofty cliffs. Striding through Carmarthenshire and crossing the Towy and Tâf estuaries, the Welsh coastal path loops around lovely Gower into Swansea Bay. Beyond the fossil-rich Glamorgan Heritage Coast, the Path runs on to Cardiff, the modern capital of Wales. From there, it’s only a short stretch down the broad Severn estuary to the pretty market town of Chepstow on the Welsh-English border.
